Chapter 187
He wouldn't let prejudice make him overlook Charlie anymore.
"Having Sandy around won't affect Charlie. From now on, I'll treat them both equally... Charlie won't be wronged again!" Even if Charlie had some quirks, he was ready to be patient and guide her kindly.
"So, you've always known Sandy isn't your biological daughter?" "Yes," Charles admitted.
Evelyn suddenly laughed, a bittersweet sound escaping her lips. "Ha... Ha..." Her smile was drenched in sorrow as she looked at Charles. Tears began to roll down her cheeks despite her laughter. Her hand was tightly wrapped around her purse, where Charlie's death certificate lay hidden.
When she stumbled upon the fact that Sandy wasn't Charles' biological daughter, she thought she could confront him with the paternity test. Charles didn't love her, but he was still possessive enough to be intolerant of any hint of another man in her life.
Not to mention Dahlia. He loved Dahlia deeply, and Evelyn was sure he'd be furious about Dahlia's deceit. He would regret mistreating Charlie for a daughter that wasn't his. Evelyn imagined throwing Charlie's death certificate in Charles' face, demanding justice for her child. She wanted him to regret everything, to live with remorse for the rest of his life.
But now-Charles had known all along that Sandy wasn't his biological daughter. And yet, he cherished Sandy like his very own. Evelyn felt her actions today were nothing more than a cruel joke. She had underestimated the depth of Charles' love for Dahlia.
Evelyn remembered the day Charlie died and the fireworks that lit up the sky. When she was in the car, she overheard a passerby mention, "If you love me, you must love everything I come with," and realized it was more than true for Charles. His love for Dahlia was so profound that he embraced her daughter as his own. How could Evelyn seek justice for her Charlie?
"What's wrong?" Charles asked. He noticed Evelyn cry and laugh at the same time and stepped closer with concern.
Hatred bubbled up inside Evelyn.
She suddenly raised her hand. "Stap, slap-"She slapped Charles twice, her voice seething with anger "Charles, how could you be so heartless?" noveldrama
"Evelyn!" Charles' face darkened immediately.
Evelyn couldn't bear to look at him anymore. She wiped away her tears and stormed out, fearing what she might do in her emotional state. Charles, with a stern expression, followed her.
"Charles, the reception..." Dahlia, holding Sandy, looked at him with tearful eyes. This was a moment she had longed for, and she wouldn't let Evelyn ruin it.
"Dad, are you not recognizing me anymore?" Sandy looked at Charles with tears in her eyes, echoing her mother's concern.
Charles couldn't just ignore Patrick and the Jenkins family; the only person he truly cared about was his grandmother. But he hesitated visibly at that moment.
Just then, Patrick's voice rang out from outside. He was chatting with the guests on stage before making an official announcement.
"Ladies and gentlemen! My son
Charles and his fiancée Evelyn are
officially announcing their
engagement today. We'll soon set a date for the engagement party and you're all welcome to join us for a celebration."
